How much of my life story do I need to tell the new person I’m dating?

Get a Little Further

Honestly, I don’t think you need to tell them much.

You need to let them know you’re listening, and you need to get the information you’re looking for as to whether you’d be interested in moving on to the next date with this person….but you don’t have to tell them much about your self.

At least not at first.

Get them talking. Pause. Listen to the nuances within their words.

Just let them talk and relax while the two of you do things you’re not used to doing: walk in the park. Play pool. Go to mini golf. Do something fun and playful, so you can share things that come up spontaneously and still keep active and alert.

It might not be great to sit and have drinks and set the expectation for deep sharing. At least not at first. Seriously, oversharing right up front can be quite the turnoff.

And frankly - someone who’s into you oversharing will likely end up being “a little bit crazy” in the long run.

It’s ok, though.

Once you get a little further down the road it’ll be both easier and a bit more natural to share bits of your life story. They’ll likely be a bit more into you if you have a few anecdotes to share - or at least you’ll be able to see how the stories land, so you can tell if you’re talking to someone you’d like to "talk to" some more.

(Irish) Scones
I’m taking the liberty of calling these ‘Irish Scones’ after they got the ‘Just like my Granny’s!’ seal of approval from my Irish friend Janet.

Ok so. Your milk's gone bad and you're not sure what to do.

DO THIS!!!! Make these scones, freeze the dough in little squares or circles, and then bake them for breakfast when you have a sleepover. It's perfection.

DAD's Soundtrack of the Day was picked to go with today's question. Enjoy!
